Camera concept
City In A Bottle is not a real 3D world as you might expect from contemporary games - it is a 2D game that obtains its 3D look by using age-old visual tricks to simulate depth.
The environment consists of different layers of artwork. A background with painted trees and layers of vector-based trees on top, with varying degrees of light intensity. The top layer will have more light, bringing it clearly into focus. The layer at the bottom will be quite dark, blending it into the background.
The camera move on the (X,Y,Z) axes, moving from left to right and up and down. It can also zoom in, meaning the layers increase in size at varying speeds, giving off the illusion that they are coming closer. As one layer disappears from the screen, another is added in the background.
